On February 28, KVPU hosted a one-day training for the Independent Rail Workers` Union (VPZU), focused on labor reform and strategies to counter union- busting campaigns. Twenty-five rail workers from various regions across Ukraine attended in Kyiv.
Rail is a vital sector of the Ukrainian economy and one of the country’s largest employers. During the full-scale invasion, over 1,000 rail workers were killed at their workplaces, and approximately 3,000 were injured.
The seminar trainers and participants focused on analyzing current issues in labor relations. They also discussed the challenges faced by trade union organizations and VPZU activists in the field when engaging with employers.
The conversation also addressed types of anti-union actions and various forms of administrative pressure directed at shop stewards, as well as methods and strategies to better protect the rights and interests of VPZU local union chapters and their members against anti-union efforts.
