During the war, Ukrainian unions fulfill not only their traditional roles but also take on tasks dictated by wartime needs, such as providing humanitarian aid and focusing more on IDPs and war veterans.
The Confederation of Free Trade Unions of Ukraine (KVPU) has established KVPU hubs through its regional union affiliates in areas with a high number of internally displaced persons or near frontline cities. These hubs aim to offer legal and psychological support to union members and their families, focusing on social and labor protections, as well as psychological aid for IDPs, war veterans, and people with disabilities. Many visitors seek information about state guarantees and compensation for those who lost their homes due to war. Attorneys working at the hubs often assist families of union members who are fallen soldiers or prisoners of war.
Since January 2026, Labor Initiatives has supported the operation of three KVPU hubs located in Kharkiv, Sheptytskyi (Lviv region), and Shaktarske (Dnipro region) as part of the program “Trade Unions Fighting Inequality and Reconstructing Peace and Democracy in Ukraine.” Between January and March 2026, these hubs provided over 200 legal consultations. Additionally, more than 50 psychological consultations were offered to those in need. The KVPU hubs also serve as networking and mutual support centers for union members and their families, hosting various events and training sessions regularly.
